Currently enjoying (not) the 18 degree weather here in Billings, MT for a 36 hour overnight. But at least the weather channel says in only feels like 5 degrees. More baby pictures have been posted... Austin's been doing great. He's up to 3 lbs 13oz and has graduated to the Level II NICU (he was in Level III since he was born. He's breathing fine on his own now with just the help of a nasal canula..which is just supplimental oxygen. He's gone from getting food continuously through a tube to a normal feeding schedule of every 3 hours and although he still sleeps in the isolet, they have turned the heater off since his body is able to do ok on his own now. But the important stuff...go check out the new pictures here: http://www.cartogra.com/home/viewownerdir.asp?owner_id=743092&owner=flyingsig Happy Holidays! Reese - Monday, October 29, 2001 at 09:45:34 (PST) Well, I had fun at the doctor the other day. I had come down with my once-every-three-years ear infection, so I just went to him to get some amoxicillin to treat it. During the examination, he asks me where I work now, I tell him, "23rd & E Streets NW, across the street from the State Dept." He stops the exam, looks at me, and asks, "Have you seen any suspicous packages lately?" I look at him and say, "You've got to be kidding!" Short version, I got nose swabbed. The results came back just like I thought they would, I'm FINE! Except for the ear infection (gone now). I was on amoxicillin for a few days and couldn't drink, but I'm fine now and going out tonight to "support the economy" and tell the anthrax terrorists to go and f*** themselves. He arrived Wednesday October 10, 2001 at 8:26pm Weighed 1 lb 14 oz and was 12 inches long. He did real good the first week. He was on a respirator the first 5 days but did so well on it (they had it on minimum settings by the second day) that he is now on what is called a CPAC which means he's breathing on his own, but still getting supplimental oxygen. So far everything is going as the doctors would like as all his x-rays & other tests are checking out good. Believe it or not, he's actually big for his age (25 weeks) and tomorrow we're going to try weening off the IV nutrients and try out some of mom's milk! Reese Kensington, MD USA - Friday, October 05, 2001 at 19:01:39 (PDT) Brothers, While this is not exactly the median I would have liked to use to share this news, I have not had a lot of time lately to make individual calls. I'm writing to ask you to keep Theresa and Austin in your prayers. On Saturday, Austin decided that he wanted to see the world albiet 3 months early. Luckily Theresa figured out what was going on early and we were able to get her to the hospital in time to get hooked up to an IV to stop the contractions. The weekend was very tense as we thought the baby would arrive at any time...but once she became stabalized the doctors felt she would be better off at Texas Women's hospital in downtown Houston which specializes in high risk pregnancies so she was transfered there on Sunday night. Yesterday the medication that stops the contractions caused her to get fluid in her lungs so they had to put her on oxygen and reduce the dosage of the other medication - that gave us a real scare but she seems to be doing fine now. She has to be on her back until the baby comes... which could be tomorrow, next week, or next month... we don't know, just that it's almost guarenteed that he'll be premature. Every extra day in the oven helps...so that's where we could use your prayers and thoughts. One small bright light though... Theresa had gotten some white roses from one of her co-workers and her Doctor made a comment about how the white rose was his flower. Sure enough he is a Sigma Chi from Baylor and that helped take a little load off my shoulders knowing that a brother is looking out for my wife and son. Updates will probally be few but hopefully the next time I give one it will be a birth announcement for a heathly baby boy several weeks from now. They are suspected in a September incident in which a UCSB freshman was allegedly force-fed liquor, stripped, sexually assaulted with a crutch and a laundry hose, then left unconscious and covered with food, beer and garbage on a couch in the street. " Crutch and a laundry hose??????? However, I know several Eta Iota Sigs who can relate to waking up on a couch on Ridgewood Ave covered with miscellaneous food items. Editor's Note: This entry was in no way an effort to make light of sexual assault victims. In fact, this story should help reinforce the fact that we should be ever mindful that we represent the best and brightest on college campuses and should so stive to prove it everyday. Seems that the 25th and the 30th brought back more alumni to ERAU than most school sponsored events. House Corporation is doing an excellent job at orchestrating this ... Wrightington Dallas, TX - Thursday, June 07, 2001 at 16:24:43 (PDT) Before this forum stirs up too much speculation on what the school will or will not do (or what House Corp is doing for that matter), I'd like to let you all know that we stirred up quite a hornet's nest among school officials. While it will still require an extraordinary amount of work and diligence on our part, we have taken the first step in making the school aware of our needs. Ossie Palla, the current Greek Advisor, has commented to me and Brian that she has seen more activity from the University on this matter in the weeks following Birthday than she has seen in the 2 years she has worked there. You will all read more about this topic in the newsletter I am putting together that you should be receiving sometime next week. In the meantime, it's critical that we look forward, not backwards, and approach this in an organized fashion as we've already begun to do. Feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions. Banta<attempt contact> Dallas, - Wednesday, June 06, 2001 at 21:19:57 (PDT) I think ERAU does not want to take the risk of having a Greek row on campus. With all we read in the paper of pledges dying and binge drinking, why would the school want that possible suit hanging over their head? If the houses are off-campus they can always say "we have no real control and are not liable". The other issue is that of resources. There is only so much land, or so they say. Unfortunately, House Corp has always waited to formulate a long-range plan based on what the school is going to do (or not do). We've lost at least a decade doing this. Maybe what we need to do is formulate our own long-range plan. We need a new house whether it is on campus or not. Let's focus on this so that we can be prepared regardless of eventual location. It's obvious that money talks at ERAU. The AMT buildings are a perfect example of this. I think the school would react a little differently if we showed up at the table with a wad of cash and said "this is what we want, this is what it needs to look like, this is how we are going to pay for it". For now, my money goes to HI - NOT ERAU! Reese Reese<attempt contact> Kensington, MD - Friday, June 01, 2001 at 06:17:28 (PDT) This may not be the forum for this editorial comment BUT ... I found that the intent of the school administrators to get extra participation with ERAU in fund raising, etc. to be counter productive. After hearing that the fraternity row concept was little more than a pipe dream, that it was more imperative that we start developing our own plan to a) increase our fund raising efforts, b) either plan on consistent renovation to our house or develop a long term plan to fund a new house, and c) make it clear to the school that their lack of a plan for fraternity row is disturbing, if not unacceptable, in light of their desire to see more participation in the Annual Fund, etc. I know this isn't the forum (although Phil Wheeler's dressing habits aren't really either), just my two cents. Anyone else have an opinion on this? John Wrightington<attempt contact> Dallas, TX - Monday, May 21, 2001 at 17:33:52 (PDT) I'm quite sure Phil has no concept of what a blazer is or how to put it on. The primary reason for founding the Eta Iota chapter was to enhance the Embry-Riddle diploma and thus, our own fledgling aviation careers. We felt that a fraternity of such national stature, known for community service, would be a way to help win recognition for our school. After touring the beautiful campus last week and recalling when it consisted of some war surplus Navy barracks and the west flight line, I’d like to think Eta Iota did indeed make a difference. As a founding father, much was made of my presence at our celebration. While that recognition surprised me and touched my heart, the truth is that all the credit for the continuing success of Eta Iota today belongs to each and every successive Brother. The original group lit the fire, but every man that followed caused it to burn brighter by bringing his own unique passion to our fraternity. I meet Eta Iota brothers on airport ramps, in offices, briefing rooms, and in cockpits all over this nation. It is always an immeasurable delight when we recognize our fraternal bond. It was indeed my great pleasure and honor to meet each and every one of you. Guard Well. For others, time has been a blessing; such as Pickle with his beautiful family. Notwithstanding the pleasures and pains we have all experienced over time, it was amazing to see everyone and to share a very special part of my life with the woman who was dumb enough to say yes. Believe it or not, even after being pelted with rolls during the annual bun toss, she actually said she had a good time and was very impressed with the brothers and their respective families (yes she was drunk when she said this and there were a number of brothers that I purposefully kept her from meeting - I do want to come back next year!)
