Marino Marino <attempt contact> - Saturday, March 20, 2004 at 11:46:51 (PST) I arrived safely back from Iraq in Feb and have some interesting stories to tell. On an exciting note Amanda just gave birth to our second child, Sarah Beth Hughey on St. Patricks Day! She weighs 7lbs 11oz and is the most gorgeous baby girl! I hope that everyone is doing well and look forward to visiting sometime when I get the chance. Roger Roger <attempt contact> - Friday, March 19, 2004 at 16:06:58 (PST) I would like to echo the sentiments that I have heard from many brothers. Banta and Lojko did an excellent job with house corp. They did what no one else wanted to and are the main reason the house corp. is in such good shape today. Innovative ideas like the 1855 club and the relive the experiance post cards set the standard high for the new officers. Be sure to buy them a beer and say thanks when you see them at Js. Toby, Carmen and I enjoyed the ceremony. Carmen cried. Congrats. Rich Rich Schooley <attempt contact> - Sunday, March 14, 2004 at 17:01:05 (PST) Luke Pestow is a dad. Yikes. Mom and son doing fine. Congrats luke. Ryan Carson <attempt contact> Atlanta, GA - Saturday, March 13, 2004 at 14:04:52 (PST) Congratulations to the new HC officers! Best of luck in your new positions... Banta and Lojko, thanks for doing a fantastic job the past few years, esp. with the communication. You two set the bar high for the new officers. If there are any Houston area Sigs, shoot me an email so I can add you to the email list for the Houston Alumni chapter (if you're not on it already). I was elected VP last month and am currently trying to make sure our database of local Sigs is accurate. Luncheon meetings are the 1st Wed. of every month at the Marriott in the Galeria. Many other events are also planned for the year and you need to be on the email list to hear about them... Hope all is well with everybody... sorry I missed B-Day, but I've been in training for a new job (going to fly a corporate Do328Jet). Mother and daughter are doing well, but I think Neil may be a little shaken. This is definitely going to put a dent in his handicap. If you would like to, you can drop him an email at rneiljet@insightbb.com. As for me, all is well. Got the hell out of politics in June '02. Graduated from law school (if you can believe that crap!) and moved back to Indy from DC in Dec. '02 . Passed the bar exam in May '03 (if you can believe that crap!). Got married to a girl who graduated from dental school with Neil's wife and Jon Burrows wife in June '03. Now I am doing litigation work in a fairly large firm. Mainly medical malpractice DEFENSE. Unlike the ambulance chasing attorneys from our chapter. :-) Just kidding Stu. Hope this finds everyone else doing well. Give me a shout if your passing through Indy. It is my understading that the chapter was started by Ty Gibson and Mikey Tomai, from HI (so contact them, they certainly would have much more info than i do). Also, check out Yahoo E-groups: etaiota. There's more info there, there are not too many alumni members. Almost all of the undergrads are on egroups, so it's a good way for the alums to follow chapter activities. And they could use some alumni support right now. Hopefully see you all at birthday. --Carson ryan carson <attempt contact> Atlanta, GA - Saturday, February 14, 2004 at 16:09:02 (PST) What John refers to is this article on the ERAU site: Sigma Pi Welcome by Christian Smelser February 14, 2004 Greetings from Sigma Pi! We had a successful rush this spring and plan to pin our potential new members soon. The Inter-Fraternity Council met on the 4th of February to elect new executive council members. The results are: Doug Moody President, Christian Smelser Vice President, and James Cooper Secretary. Treasurer and Greek event coordinator are still open. The IFC hopes to become more involved with the school and promote Greek life. Sigma Pi would like to welcome the new sorority on campus Alpha Sigma Tau, and we like to give a welcome the developing Fraternity Sigma Chi. Sigma Pi would like to keep your eyes open from up coming events. However, www.sigmachi.org shows no signs of a chapter at Prescott, and searches for "Prescott" turn up nothing, searches for "embry riddle" only turn up Eta Iota - could it be a typo, or is Sigma Pi, trying to become a Sigma Chi chapter?? The two men and a woman were wanted on probation violation charges and climbed into the attic to hide when police tracked them to an apartment building in Daytona Beach on Monday, police Sgt. Al Tolley said. Police searched the apartment and noticed a hatch leading to an attic above a second-story bedroom, and opened it. One of the suspects called out, "Get me out of here. There's a dead body up here," Tolley said. The three were arrested and investigators were still trying to identify the skeletal remains. The apartment's tenant told police she had lived there about three months and had noted a foul odor but could not locate the source. Yep, Dailey is an air traffic controller, God help us. We walked by the World Trade Center, which is still a pretty powerful sight, if youve never been there before. They have a permanent memorial set up by the city. There were only a few flowers and pictures left by people because anything left is removed each night by sanitation workers. But we did find a large white laminated poster hung on a wall with large Sigma Chi letters and a Fraternity flag. There was a list of 8 names and an inscription that was something to the effect of: "Dedicated to our fallen Sigma Chi Brothers. May you rest peacefully in Chapter Eternal and forever in our hearts." We walked across the street to buy a disposable camera, and when we got back the sign was gone. A cop told me that some guy had just come by to take it down, so it would not get thrown away at night. It's still amazing where you can find strength in brotherhood. We thought this was a pretty good story and wanted to share it with you all. In hoc, brothers. Ryan Carson <attempt contact> Atlanta, GA - Monday, September 15, 2003 at 13:37:01 (PDT) An email from Mike King at Sigma Chi Headquarters: Dear Brother, As you may have heard, Sigma Chi and other members of the North-American Interfraternity Conference have recently been involved in an important legislative effort in Washington, D.C. This effort has focused on gaining support for the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act of 2003, introduced earlier this year in both the House and Senate. Current tax law greatly restricts the ability of fraternities and sororities to raise tax-deductible money for housing and infrastructure improvements. Unlike housing owned by our host institutions, the only areas within Greek housing that can currently utilize tax-deductible funds in their construction or renovation are those areas that are exclusively used for educational purposes (ie: libraries, study rooms, etc.). The Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act (S. 1246) would permit qualified 501(c)(3) foundations to make collegiate housing and infrastructure improvement grants and continue to be treated as tax-exempt organizations. In other words, this bill would enable house corporations to conduct capital campaigns for chapter houses in which all of the contributions could be raised on a tax-deductible basis. At this time we are asking Sigma Chi alumni and undergraduates to contact their United States Senators by letter, email, or fax to request their support for this legislation. For your convenience, we have included a sample letter on our web site for you to customize, requesting that your U.S. Senators co-sponsor S. 1246. Please take a moment to contact both of your senators as soon as possible. More information about this legislation and how to contact your senators can be found on our web site at: http://www.sigmachi.org/article.phtml?iItemID=1284. If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your attention to this issue and your continued dedication to Sigma Chi Fraternity. Ya'lls baby! <attempt contact> - Tuesday, September 09, 2003 at 09:28:06 (PDT) I would just like to reiterate Rich's point. 1855 Club has been an excellent source for funding our long-term savings. As I took over the books as Treasurer, all the hard work had already been done by Schooley, Banta and Lojko. However, looking at the 1855 Club membership, I see we have approximately 45 members, while our alumni number are approaching, what 700?!?!?!? I realize that those of you reading this probably are already 1855 Club members, but it would be nice to reach more of our alumni for additional support. As alumni, I understand how difficult it may be to fulfill our life long commitment. So, if you feel you don't have the time, etc, why not consider joining up for the 1885 Club? I can assure you the money is targeted and allocated to long-term savings intended for housing issues in the future such as a new house or major renovation type projects and NOT for Christoper Edmonson's Botox treatments or for sodding the front yard! As well, if you are already a member, try getting in touch with an old Pledge brother and lay the guilt trip on them. For so long, we've heard the excuse that we were a young chapter with no major financial support from a large alumni group. Well, this isn't the case anymore. Would've been nice to hear it from them. At least the chief pilot saw me with my hat on for a change. My new status has actually given me a lot of clout at the national headquarters which happens to be just around the corner from my crashpad. I would post my phone number so that everyone could call on me to use my significant influence to make some earth shaking changes within the organization, but it would be pointless. I have no doubt that everyone is so pleased with representation they recieve from their union, that my phone would never ring. My company has recenlty added a section to our web page that will allow Riddle students and grads to post there resumes and let our client base serch it. The link is: http://www.nationair.com/index.cfm?&fuseaction=careers.careersearch I have included some info from my company on how this will work. I am also going to request that this be a permant link to our page. Jordan and I will also probably be looking for some interns come Jan 1 or so. The details are still being worked out but we will make the undergrads aware of the reqirements as we get them. Info is as follows: "To remind everyone of what we are doing, we have contacted a select group of university flight schools to allow their graduates to post their resumes on a page of our website. So right now we do not have anything posted on the site. We will be informing our commercial and IA clients of this so that they can search the website for in the event they are hiring. This week Diane is contacting the schools to inform them of the procedure for posting resumes. Once we get some postings, we will send out a mass mailing from Chicago to our current IA and commercial clients introducing them to this new feature. I would expect that letter to go out late next week and we have a database of about 700 NationAir clients nationwide who will receive this letter. We are limiting the initial group of schools to a small number for control purposes. The four schools that aver initially agreed to participate are: Embry Riddle, UND, FIT, and Academy of Aviation in Minneapolis. All of these schools have been around for a long time and offer 4 year aviation degrees" Hope this helps someone ODonnell ODonnell <attempt contact> Van Nuys, CA - Tuesday, July 01, 2003 at 18:03:38 (PDT) Hey all...wow, this real world thing sucks...i feel like a furloughed pilot. Not only was I able to identify the labia majora of every Shark Lounge lady from 1995-2000 but I was also able to discern the various vaginas by smell and taste in the complete darkness of the VIP room, an ability that I must say took great dedication and training. It was my hope that some of my various understudies like Mr. Lanford and Mr. Turfit would be able to pass this technique along, however they have proven to be somewhat of a disappointment and do not possess some of my natural talent in this area. So in old England, when customers got unruly, the bartender would yell at them mind their own pints and quarts and settle down. We are trying to stir up some interest in a Bachelor party for the first weekend in April (4-6th). Location options are Vegas, Montreal, Daytona, or Miami. We are leaning towards Montreal right now. If anyone has any other ideas or would like to show, give Short Bus or myself a call. Also, please help spread the word about this to people that might not use this guestbook. Thanks. While there are probably few people in the country (or world) that may meet the requirements for the listed position, the brother who posted the opening informed me that he had other openings with the company, and interested parties should contact him - and be able to send a resume. Best of luck. Bill Palmer <attempt contact> - Monday, February 10, 2003 at 22:48:16 (PST) Chewy, You obviously didn't know about the water to fill the pool from '78 through '86. However, defending a class action suit from all of the previous owners of the Raintree)could make you a big name quickly. Moved home to Indianapolis from DC in December. Currently residing in bar review hell. Take the Indiana Bar Exam on February 25&26, so hopefully we will have another lawyer in the House when the Raintree finally sues us for the water we used to fill the pool back in '87 and '88. Anyway, looks like I am headed to the Marion County Prosecutors Office in June. A Deputy DA if you can believe that. Still getting married in June. Glad to hear everyone is doing well. Look me up if you are passing through Indy.
