Well actually... A quick check of the directory revealed that there are 30 HI sigs in the DC area. 14 in MD, 1 in DC and 19 in VA. The DC area probably has the largest HI sig population outside of Daytona Beach. See you all at B-day. Reese send message Kensington, MD - Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at 20:26:24 (PST) Actually, they'll be 4 in the DC area come December 31. At least for 3 weeks, I'll be back home, moving into my new condo. Just when I get OUT of debt, I have to go and jump back in. As of now I have 11 days, 10 hours, 54 minutes and 36 seconds before my plane leaves Kuwait on the way home. Anyone in the area at that time who feels the need to drink til we're stupid (which after 6 months of no alcohol should be about 2 beers for me) can feel free to call or email me...my address in the roster is up to date. Right now I am at the proverbial "undisclosed location" somewhere in Iraq. And let me tell you...where I'm at isn't close to the end of the earth...it IS the end of the Earth! After all this, I still have an abbreviated tour coming up, but I WILL be in DAB for the b-day party! Well my time on the computer is up. Take care! In Hoc- Big Lar PS I really wanted to see the CC come down...I hope someone took pictures. Also, when is the hotel info for b-day coming out? Don't forget to email those of us without reliable mail service (or post it on the website here). Larry Hesterberg send message Craphole, Iraq - Monday, December 19, 2005 at 11:05:26 (PST) Well, it has been a while since I have posted (or even read) on here, so hope everyone is doing well. Just got back from dinner with Schelke, who is now moving away from the DC area, which I think leaves like 3 of us in the DC area. As for guys serving overseas: THANKS! I could use a mailing address if possible, as Julie and I have started a program to get people to show their support. We have started a program called Scrapbooks for Soldiers (http:www.scrapbooksforsoldiers.org). What we are doing is collecting pictures of people who want to thank the troops for doing what they do, putting them in scrapbooks, and sending them out. It really is nothing more than a morale boost, but there have been people who want to send care packages as well. It has been difficult getting addresses for soldiers (the U.S. government doesn't exactly just hand that info out). So again, anyone serving overseas, or knowing someone who serves overseas, get us an address and we will send a scrapbook and maybe some goodies for you or the person you know to share with your/their unit. So far we have sent books to Iraq, Bethesda Naval Hospital, Walter Reed Medical Center, and even to a soldier recovering in Georgia. I have contacted Sigma Chi HQ and so far we have recieved a chapter photo from Austin Peay and someone who is going to send a chapter photo from the University at Waterloo. An Eta Iota photo would be awesome to add in. In fact if we could make an entire album of nothing but Sigs, I think that would be awesome. So, let me know. Again, I hope everyone is doing well and has a safe and happy holiday season! I've also finally finished my 2.5 year journey to becoming a tailhook aviator. This past weekend I was in Jacksonville finishing carrier qualifications. Flew out to the JFK which was about 90 miles off the coast, got 5 carrier arrested landings and 4 catapult shots Saturday, spent the night on the boat, got up early sunday, got 5 more of each, and then a shot back to the beach, and I'm done! Finally got my gold wings. Find out tomorrow where I'm going, I do know it's a Hornet I'll be flying, just don't know which one or where. I have spent most of it getting a warm reception from the locals at FOB Kalsu, south of Baghdad. Neary every night the locals put on a fireworks show for us using rockets and mortars, and twice we were treated to car bombs at the gate (OK, one was a truck). Thanksfully, I will be heading home on December 31, arriving in DC just in time for the last two hours of New Year's Eve (if all the connections work). Then, I will be moving into my new place which I bought (with the bank's help) in Alexandria. Now the bad news...I am coming back to Iraq for a THIRD tour. I'll be heading back the end of January. This doesn't mean that I will miss Birthday, far from it. I negotiated a shorter tour so that I'll make it back for the party. Meanwhile, back to the grind out here. In Hoc- Big Lar Larry Hesterberg send message Fallujah, Iraq - Saturday, December 03, 2005 at 03:49:01 (PST) website for Eta Iota related shirts, clocks, magnets, etc. I bought some of this stuff the first week it came out (I believe that was last week). Just got it in the mail and the clock and the sweatshirt came first ... amazing, good quality and VERY Eta Iota. I got a few of the mugs too, for Christmas presents ... the are better than great, more to come. Take a look at this stuff, I'm getting the magnet stuff next week. I hate to say this, but my affinity for Sigma Chi is my experience as an active, a recent alumni, and now an old fart alumni ... Being a Sigma Chi is almost incidental to being an Eta Iota Sigma Chi ... so getting Eta Iota paraphenalia is just as/if not more important to me as getting something from the magazine. As soon as Palmer realizes that, he'll put a premium on this stuff and we can raise the money for House Corporation and show our own pride in our Chapter for a great purpose. Palmer reigns Wrightington send message Dallas (god's country), TX - Friday, December 02, 2005 at 18:30:36 (PST) Brothers, Just wanted to let everyone know that I am enjoying my second tour over here in Tikrit, Iraq. Yeah right! One cool thing is that there are three other Sigma Chis that are in my unit. One is a Chinook Pilot, the other a Chinook Crew Chief, and finally a Flight Surgeon. Im of course the coolest because I fly Blackhawks. We have a Sigma Chi Flag and will see if we can get our picture in the magazine. Im in a pretty safe area, and the living conditions are a hell of a lot better that OIF I. I couldnt imagine being over here if I wasnt flying. Got to give credit to the grunts over here like Josh Donaldson, Jason Smith, and Mark Oneil. Those guys really have it rough and dont get the credit that they deserve. Anyways I should be home in the Spring and hopefully will get the chance to make my way down to Daytona and see some old and new faces. I think my wife will agree to watch the kids and let the "ROG" come out for old time sakes. Well feel free to drop me a line from time to time, its always good to hear from old friends. Anyone interested in a job at the crappy regional level, should check out Air Wisconsin. They are planning on hiring 200+ F/Os between January and July. This is all to cover attrition, so if you want to fly pretty new 70+ seat airplanes, try somewhere else. Bases are DCA, PHL, and ORF all on the CL65. It is not the greatest company, but my check never bounces. Plus, you get to fly with me 'cause I finally got a Captain award. Now I just have to get through training. D'OH Myatt send message - Tuesday, November 08, 2005 at 16:26:58 (PST) And now for a little humor, check this out from our Bro's in Missouri... Goat's Rotten Week Ends With Eviction CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) — First she was assaulted with spray paint, then kidnapped. Now, Sharon the goat faces eviction. The 7-month-old animal has been the mascot for the Sigma Chi fraternity at Southeast Missouri State University. On Oct. 21, someone got inside a security fence at the frat house and spray-painted the goat. Then early Sunday, the fraternity reported Sharon missing. She turned up unharmed a day later inside fencing at an animal hospital. No arrests were made in the theft. But the fraternity learned it's also a city ordinance violation to keep barnyard animals inside city limits. The fraternity has a week to find a new home for the goat, which roams freely on Sigma Chi's two-acre plot and is allowed indoors. Compiled by FOXNews.com's Andrew Hard. As we make arrangements to attend the birthday party in April, let me put out a challenge to my other brothers. See who can find these lost brothers and get them to the celebration. I for one would really enjoy seeing brothers like Rod George, Jim Hamblin, Steve Meade, John McDaniels and others. Remember that being a Sigma Chi is a life-long commitment. It's all about the ritual! In Hoc Dan Rees <send email> lincoln, ne usa - Thursday, October 27, 2005 at 08:16:39 (PDT) Dear Brother, My name is Matthew Kimball, I am a former Magister and graduating Senior at UC Berkeley, and I am writing to ask for your help. I am on a mission to raise money for our new philanthropy, the Huntsman Cancer Institute; my grandfather survived multiple gunshot wounds during the deadliest war of all time but died of cancer before I was born. I am a professional musician, have just released my first album, and wish to donate the profits from this album to HCI. My CD, Theogony, is available at Amazon.com, iTunes and several other stores, but distribution costs cut deeply into profits. It is for this reason that I have come directly to you to ask for your help: could you please help me, HCI, and the Sigma Chi Foundation by presenting this opportunity to your Undergraduate or Alumni Chapter and encouraging them to buy CDs? In less than one month, we at Alpha Beta have raised nearly $1,000 through selling CDs to friends, family, professors, and sorority girls! I would like to raise no less than $15,000, but I definitely need your help. Anyone who likes Elton John is guaranteed to like my music...hopefully others will too, but that’s the best way for me to impart to you my genre. A lo-fi mp3 of each track is available for listening on my website: www.matthewkimball.com I am selling the CDs for $12 and would like to give at least $7 per CD to HCI. Of course, if anyone wants to donate more it would be greatly welcomed and appreciated. Also, if I ship you CDs as a chapter, as opposed to shipping CDs individually, it will greatly reduce shipping costs and I will be able to donate more money to HCI and less to the USPS. You would be doing us all a great service if you could coordinate this within your chapter by: 1) Contacting me at sigs@matthewkimball.com 2) Rounding up those Brothers who would like a CD or CDs for themselves, friends or parents (CDs make great Christmas gifts), taking their donations and mailing them to: Matthew Kimball, PO Box 1901, Danville, CA 94526 3) Distributing CDs to those Brothers when they arrive. It’s that simple. I feel that there is a great potential here to raise money for a great cause. And don’t forget that Brother Huntsman will match our donations to HCI with a donation to the Sigma Chi Foundation. If you feel like you have extra-high ambition, I’m happy to work with you undergraduates on raising money outside of your Chapter and using this as a fundraising tool. Oh, did I mention that Grand Consul Keith Krach, along with the 1997-99 International Sweetheart, Metta Grokenberger, and I will visit the undergraduate chapter that raises the most money to give a live performance??? Right now, that chapter is Berkeley...but I’ve been there for 5 years, so I’d like to visit you! IN HOC,

We have had 39 individuals (plus the Houston Area Alumni Chapter) make donations. The donations so far total more than $8,100 !!!! This is awesome. But considering we have 39 donations and over 500 alumni, it would be great to see a higher percentage of participation, even it means a modest donation. I will be in Alexandria, VA, from June 12th through July 13th if anyone wants to watch me get drunk on 2 beers (no booze since December 18, 2004, thank you very much, not that I'm counting or anything [this is also killing my Anheuser-Busch stock, so someone drink up for me]). I'll be in FLL as the main holding company base. Nice part about this company is it's being bankrollled by a billionaire with a goal of building an airline infrastructure in the Caribbean. I am still short of my goal and I am sending this out for my last chance to ask people to donate so that I can meet my goal for the ride. When you read this email I know it is easy to just delete it and forget about it, BUT BEFORE YOU DO THAT THINK OF THE LIVES THAT YOU CAN CHANGE WITH JUST $1.00. People with this unfortunate disease did not ask for this, they just want a chance to live their lives like most of us are able to and with your donation they just might have that chance. No amount is to small or big and again thank you to those of you who have already donated. Here is a link where you can donate on my website and you even get a chance to write a message for everyone to see. Thank you very much for your donation. Nice work, Tyrel - even though you may miss the ceremony, you can take pride that you started something that will last a very, very long time and will always have your name associated with it. But beyond that, you have also made your college, the Sigma Chi Fraternity, and literally your own chapter more honored by all men and women and more beloved and honestly respected by our own brothers. You have succeeded in your endeavor to so build yourself and so conduct yourself that you will ever be a credit to our Fraternity. We should all do so well. At this point, all chapters are voting to except or decline Sigma Chi Rho worth for installation as the Kappa Phi Chapter at Embry-Riddle Presscott. Attached is their website www.erausigs.org If your get a chance take a look at it. I must say I am impressed with their committment and resolve in seeing this to the end. As of last count all chapters that had voted FOR their installation. Installation will be on the 24 of April 2005 in Prescott, AZ. Anyone that can make it is invited. Myself, I am currently in Korea serving in the Air Force and trying to get leave approved to attend the installation ceremony. I am out here as an engineer for Lockheed Martin Technical Operations supporting the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force (IMEF). We are working on providing the Marines with some pretty cool UAV/satellite stuff (can't really say more here). I am out here until around June 15th. During that time, we will be touring the lovely and hospitible regions of al-Anbar Province, which John Kerry, when he was here last week, correctly pronounced a "shithole." It's been pretty quiet since after the holidays. It seems the Sunnis don't like Christmas or New Year's since those days (and the Eve days) were when we were last hit with mortar and rocket fire. Don't worry, for every piece of ordinance they lobbed over the wire (not very far over the wire, by the way), it was answered by about 12 rounds from our side.
