President's Update – 2024
Welcome Brothers! The 23-24 year has been a busy one that has seen much progress. I would like to thank all of the Alumni Officers and Trustees who have unselfishly given their time.
The work we have done started with the repair of the retaining wall, removal of the dead palm tree, repair of part of the pool concrete skirt and replacement of the unsafe stairs with an accessible walkway. That project also included the reinforcement of the BBQ gazebo.
We also had electrical work done by a licensed electrician to repair and upgrade the GFCI circuitry and lighting servicing the pool and pump room. The pool pump and safety cut off have also been replaced along with automated feeders for the chemicals. I am pleased to announce that the pool has passed state inspection and is open.
Our Summer work week saw a complete renovation of the kitchen with stainless steel walls, counters, sink and appliances. The tile floor was also repaired and extended under the counters sink and appliances. We also painted the bay window trim on both wings. Will and Bill McNiell and I worked together with the undergraduates to replace the floor ring under the machines in the laundry room — Massey, Swiss, Cam Archibald and Joe Sarli.
The final camera installation and upgrades were also completed at that time. Thank you Marino, Adams, and Hesterberg on the security cameras with Banta, and a big thanks to our kitchen crew, Cassino, O'Neil, Hammond and brother Ken Bording who served as supervising safety and tool procurement officer. Finally Brother Ahrens served as BBQ master and beverage supplier for the end of week gathering. Gio and Kingsley for the help removing the furniture to the dump. If I forgot anyone I thank you.
Fall semester was quiet other than dealing with the city on our back parking lot, which can no longer be used until a formal plan with the FL Dept of Environmental Protection is filed, approved and implemented — this has been added to our going forward roadmap.
The renovation of rooms 1-4 on the south wing is under way and has already passed rough plumbing and electrical inspection. We hope to have it completed right before initiation. We had an unusually large number of residents graduate this past December and reached out to the undergraduate chapter to ask if we could start during this semester. The chapter has agreed and to date I am not aware of any impact issues. I will be in Daytona next week to inspect the work. Rooms 15-18 will begin renovations at the end of this semester during this summer to complete our work.
Work Week will be moved to coincide with move in week to better align with the undergraduates schedules. A project list will be forthcoming and a BBQ to share some brotherhood — please plan on volunteering and joining us.
