Announcements & Birthdays

From the desk of the Prez – Bonds of Brotherhood:

Does it feel like time just slips away? Wasn’t Birthday just last week? Where does the time go? As the months/years fly by it seems the less and less time we have to stay connected with each other. This is no more apparent than the list of lost brothers. We all know we’re a small chapter, yet we have a rich history. Personally, that’s one of the greatest assets of our chapter. We’ve earned 17 Peterson Significant Chapter Awards, 2 Legion of Honor awards, a Public Relations Award, 2 Character in Actions, and countless Grand Consul’s Citations. Eta iota also has produced 2 Significant Sig Awards; Brother John Bailey `75 and most recently Brother Hugh Mills `74, our White Cross has gained new luster by their lives….Not Bad for 38 years.

Despite all of this, as well as an undying devotion to our order we still have almost 100 Eta Iota Sigs: Lost.

Over the past two months Seth Downs, Bill Palmer, Jon Wrightington and others have “Cut Loose” so to speak, implementing new/exciting programs to reconnect our chapter. Communication is the name of the game now, and I’m proud to formally announce our 5 year captains:

`70-`74 Mike Wyble
`75-`79 Dave Fraser
`80-`84
`85-`89 Jeff Penn
`90-`94 Brian Lojko
`95-`99 Curt Kienast
`00-`04 Jason Kreisher
`05-`09 Nick Weiss

Collegiate Housing & Infrastructure Bill

Chapter houses seem to have an insatiable need for renovation. As the houses age and are subjected to “accelerated depreciation” by the residents, house corporations are challenged to keep the housing safe and competitive with other forms of university housing. Universities have long had the advantage of being able to use tax deductible contributions to maintain their property.

The Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act (HR 1547/S 781) would level the playing field by Continue reading

MARSHFIELD MARINER

Marshfield – To his friends and family, Drew Brian Hunter was a beacon of inspiration, joy and love.
Hunter, a Marshfield High School graduate, died June 4 at age 29 after a kayaking accident in Vail, Colo. On June 8, he was remembered in an informal ceremony along the Black Gore Creek. Approximately 50 friends and family members gathered as they took turns singing songs, reading poems and carving messages and memories into a snowboard-shaped piece of wood.
The memorial — a horizontal piece of wood shaped like a snowboard mounted on a stake carved to look like a mountain peak — was placed a few feet from the site of Hunter’s accident. During the ceremony, when it started to snow, many of the gatherers said it felt as if Drew was looking down from above, having a bit of fun.

We have lost a brother today

Brothers and Friends,

Drew HunterI’m sorry to have to be the one who give everyone the bad news, but our Brother and friend Drew Hunter has passed away in a kayaking accident.  He was with friends yesterday afternoon when he became stuck in the river.  They tried to help him but it didn’t work.  The search party found our brother Drew this morning.

This is the link to the news story from Vail, CO.

As of now there are no plans for a funeral.  As soon as I find out the information I will pass it on.  I am out in Denver with Drew’s fiance and family and will keep everyone up to date.  Please use me as a contact, 603-630-4181.

Brother Hugh Mills (HI’74) wins Significant Sig Award

Brother Mills will be inducted as a Significant Sig on Friday, July 3rd, at the 77th Grand Chapter. During the 39 years of Eta Iota’s existence, we have only been recognized for one Significant Sig, Brother John Bailey’ 75.

I am humbled to have nominated Hugh for this great honor and am thrilled that he will finally be recognized for the tremendous sacrifices he has made for his community and our nation.

Brother Mills attended Officer Candidate School in the height of the Vietnam war. He was selected for Flight School and received his Army Aviator Wings as a helicopter pilot. At age twenty, he commanded a squadron of ten aircraft, and twenty young men in combat.
